Address by the President of the Arvest Group
Dear clients, valued readers I would like to express a few personal words before introducing our group and our comprehensive range of services to you. When I was young, I went to a career counselor who suggested I train to become a graphic designer, his reasoning being that my artistic and commercial talents were about equally strong. Although I successfully passed the entrance examination to the school of design, I followed my inner voice, which urged me to train in banking. At that time, back in 1956, my biggest aim was to become the branch manager of a large Swiss bank. It never occurred to me then that one day I would be president and owner of a Swiss group of companies holding in its portfolio a private bank, a fiduciary company, and a fund management company. As you can see from our company brochure, we have been growing constantly since the beginning. We are free of debt, independent, and unaffiliated – a status we want to maintain. For our clients and for myself it is comforting to know that my son, Stefan, succeeds me in managing our companies. The loyalty of our clients is proof of their satisfaction with our services. Actually, they have recommended us to their friends, who have in turn also become clients of ours. That is how we developed – without an advertising budget, and without being involved in any scandals. It is for these reasons, that we remain relatively unknown. For us, a satisfied customer is not an empty slogan, but a fact. This remains our uppermost guiding principle, even though we have now decided to offer our services to a wider public. Managing a group of companies in such a way that all stakeholders are satisfied – clients and employees, business partners, supervisory authorities, the public and the owners – represents a big challenge and a meaningful purpose in life. Good and long-lasting relationships thrive on this kind of philosophy. One of the keys to this philosophy is the fee structure we introduced in 1972: Our clients pay neither safe custody fees nor administration charges, but a 10 % performance fee on net growth. Also, we charge this fee only after all accumalated losses of previous years have been fully recovered. This rule is applied only if the securities account is held with our private bank, and we take full responsibility for the portfolio management. We also offer other fee structures, and we are confident that you will in any case find our conditions to be customer friendly. Your assets held with us are invested and managed in accordance with exactly the same guidelines as our own funds. This principle has stood us in good stead in good and in bad times. As a consequence we avoid the usual conflict of interests. Not only the clients holding their assets with us benefit from this scheme but also the clients holding their assets with a third party bank. If our clients are doing well, this benefits us too. If we are successful, then we aim to make a meaningful contribution and help to slowly but surely improve the world we are living in. We support charitable organizations that work efficiently in the field of social welfare and culture and have a low administrative cost base.
